Get yer kicks with Zydeco Kicks!
author: sumori
You think zydeco is a music limited to small part of Louisiana? Then you have to think again.
Zydeco Kicks is a Japanese band hailing from Tokyo that plays it. They finally released this debut CD in March of 2009 after years of playing clubs and festival circuits around Tokyo and all over Japan. One listen and you will see how much these guys love the music. The leader Yoshitake (on accordion and vocals) was originally a piano player in another R&B band, but since he fell in love with zydeco, he has visited Southwest Louisiana number of times honing his skills jamming with the zydeco artists in the area. True, zydeco is far from being a mainstream music in Japan, but here are folks so much devoted to the music on the other side of Pacific. Amazing.
Many of the songs here are well-known covers of zydeco greats such as Boozoo Chavis, Beau Jocque and Geno Delafose, but the Zydeco Kicks have added their unique touch by singing them in Japanese. Their shows are always fun to attend. Great party band.
