In the spring of 2001, local Atlanta artists of many different genres came together to make a musical statement about the gun violence that continues to threaten our society. Coinciding with a live concert sponsored by the Atlanta chapter of the Million Mom March Foundation, this album of studio tracks is a musical blend of rock, rap, r&b, folk, gospel and spoken word. Some songs address the issue of gun violence itself, while other songs speak about love, peace, spirituality and even romance.
The concert that was held in conjunction with the album's release received widespread coverage by the Atlanta media. The album is also dedicated to the mother of slain Atlanta-area sheriff elect Derwin Brown, who was gunned down in front of his home by his predecessor, then Sheriff Sidney Dorsey. Dorsey has since been convicted of murder, but the case had sparked the largest manhunt in the area since the Atlanta child murders of the 1980s.
These artists have provided songs based on themes that are rarely heard. Take the journey with them as they reveal their passion for a world without violence beginning with a poem by Derwin Brown's son.
