The first album by Aaron Berg, “Songs For Madame X”, benefits greatly from its low-fi do it yourself production style. The songs were recorded at variety of locations from a huge loft on Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to the posh highrise studio at the New School For Social Research in Greenwich Village all the way out to Berg’s own unheated basement studio tucked away along the outer reaches of Hispanic Brooklyn.

The album’s nine tracks range from ghostly stripped down nocturnal folk to all out psychedelic mayhem featuring Fender Rhodes, analog synths, lap steel, and a wide range of electronic tape delays and acoustic effects. Berg’s poetry ranges from soulful confessions of love to fiery indictments of a generation buried in shadow. The album has sold three printings since its initial release in February 2007.

Born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1984 to the mom and pop owners of a local record store, Berg’s voice is consumed by a strange and enticing sort of wisdom. In 2008, he toured from the East Coast to California and back covering over 15,000 miles in the process. Overall the songs embrace both a rebellious seduction and a strident social awareness. Berg’s live performances are not to be missed blending bizarre tales of the road with comedic quips and mysterious one-liners. Critic’s have described the live show as “riveting and uplifting from one hypnotic twist to the next...”, and “...another Dylan on the cusp of something else very big.” Volume One of Aaron Berg’s free monthly podcast of unreleased original material, entitled “Love & Coffee Tapes”, is now available on iTunes and CDBaby. A second full length studio album entitled “River Taxi Man” will be released in the fall of 2009.
