Piano-vocalist Aaron English leads a six-piece world-fusion band.

notes

All the Waters of This World is the self-produced debut album from Seattle-based piano-vocalist Aaron English. His style is rock, but progressive and cosmopolitan: "world-beat" in the vein of Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, and Sting. The scope of the album is epic, the five-piece band often augmented by full string orchestrations, Middle Eastern or West African drum ensembles, a mariachi band, hurdy-gurdy through a wah-wah pedal or didjeridu layered with programmed beats.

To bring All the Waters of This World into the world, English built a studio in a ninety-year-old barn in Seattle and, together with co-producer/bandmates Patrick Strole and Don Gunn, spent a year recording over 400 hours of tracks for the album and tackling the massive task of post-production and mixing. Other core contributors included New Yorkers Meredith Yayanos (violin), Aerin Tedesco (vocals) and Miguel Mateus (bass), who flew into Seattle for several weeks of song arrangement, rehearsal and recording.

Aaron continues to receive critical recognition and awards for his recordings and live show, including:

- Finalist in the 'Best Male Singer-Songwriter Album' and 'Best Electronica Song' categories in the 2004 Just Plain Folks Music Awards.

- Semi-finalist in the 2002 Coca-Cola/American Music Awards New Artist Competition.

- Finalist in Atlantic Records’ Soul City Music Quest in 2003 (the winner toured with Jewel as an opening act on the world tour).

  • Still A Favorite
author: Jim Kloss (Whole Wheat Radio)

We've been airing this CD for almost 2 years and it's still one of our favorites. Everytime a track comes on I'm blown away by the musicality and beauty. It's flat out exceptional - and strongly recommended.

  • excellent debut

excellent...one of the best debut discs I've ever heard. Let's hope this is not the last we'll hear of mr. English.

  • A remarkably powerful debut...I'm telling my friends!

Love this CD!! I'm still really hooked on Lullaby of Loneliness, and All the Waters, but all the songs are of real depth and quality. It is so personal, and yet so universal. I'd give it 5 stars, but I know the next CD will be even better, since this is just his first (I still can't believe that!!).

  • Impressive musicianship + best lyrics I've heard this year

The first three songs alone would rate this album at least 4 stars with their compelling hooks, use of rhythm, inventive complex & well-placed lyrics, and the Peter Gabriel / Warren Zevon voice of Mr. English. "Very Very Heavy" adds a slow, poignant, deeply emotional tale, and "Ghost.." and "Animals..." are two more good uptempo songs that can raise the hairs on the back of your neck. A few of the remaining slow songs did not resonate with me, or have quite the edge of the others (reason for the 4 stars, rather than 5), but this is still a CD that is one of the best of the year.

  • Phenomenal CD!

This CD is absolutely amazing. The music is so wide and wild and beautiful. All sorts of styles and instruments blending in a wonderful melange. The lyrics are fantastic -- sometimes telling a heartbreaking story ("Very Very Heavy"); other times capturing a moment in time ("Sea of Nectar"). Songs range from beautifully simple ("Lullaby") to as structured and complex as a movie ("Santiago"). Every song is a wonder, and each time I listen to the CD I hear something new. I can't recommend it enough.
