"I felt in listening to Aaron's demos for the first time that he was doing something I'd not heard anyone even attempt for a long time. He's got this voice with fantastic depth and emotion, and really that's the anchor for every song -- the instruments take a decidedly secondary role. And it's funny, because everything on this record continues to surprise me -- I'll listen to the songs and hear something new in them every time. That doesn't happen too often.

I also think the performances benefited from the different locations in which they were recorded, be it LA or Pittsburgh, though the best moments came from setting up in Aaron's apartment. There's an intimacy and a beauty in that work that's hard to get anywhere."
