Two epic song tributes on two very important themes;
Highway of Heroes - contemporary / country / rock
About the stretch of highway that Canadian soldiers who are killed in action must travel before being laid to rest, from C.F.B. Trenton to Toronto, Ontario. The highway's signifance was lost on many people and Scott and I felt that a song might help to reach them, as well as pay tribute to those brave people who lost their lives in combat. The song does not condone war, or Canada's involvement, it simply exists to honour our 'heroes', both past and present, and encourages people to ponder the preciousness of their own lives.
Anymore Angels - a/c / rock / acoustic / ballad
A song commentary about the reality of gang violence and drive by shootings in cities across the nation, which takes the lives of innocent victims and causes their families immense pain. This song was written in 2003, BEFORE an infamous Christmas-time shooting incident that happened on the streets of Toronto. Many people connect this song with that incident because the lyrics almost describe what actually happened. Andrew and I felt that these issues needed to be talked about, and hoped that the songs' message would encourage people to take a strong stand against gang violence in cities everywhere.
