Album Notes

The Abaca String Band was founded in 1990 by 8 string guitarist, Andrew Schulman. Other members include Barry Mitterhoff on mandolin, Robert Zubrycki on violin, Julie Goodale on viola, and Marc Schmied on double bass. Their eclectic repertoire and original arrangements of music from Bach to the Beatles has brought them to the White House, the Newport Music Festival, and other major festivals and arts centers across the United States. Andrew Schulman's informative and highly entertaining commentary ties the program together for audiences of all ages.
"Live From Chautauqua" is a recording of the Abaca String Band's 1998 concert at the Chautauqua Institution, recorded by National Public Radio station, WNED (Buffalo, New York) for their "Music from Chautauqua" series.

Great fun, beautiful playing!

You don't often find Handel, Joplin and Peter Townshend together on the same program. Andrew Schulman and his ABACA string band make these and others co-conspiritors in his romp through 4 centuries of music. Schulman's entertaining arrangements and inspired playing by the band make this an entertaining and ear-opening recording!
