Sharp, sweet, gentle, punchy: The Best Game rocks!
author: Trey in LA
The Best Game is my favorite album of 2006. The versatile and talented Brothers Lester have put something really special together here. Songs on The Best Game range from sweetly lyrical to indie garage aggressive; to my earnest and untrained ear, the music is reminscent of post-surf Beach Boys, Death Cab/Postal Service, CSN&Y, (and perhaps a dollop of XTC?). I played a few songs for a female friend; her response was, "Aww, they sound so cute." That's only half the story. Their sense of youthful, boyish wonder notwithstanding, these boys can rock! Personal album faves: "The Best Game," "NME," "World Is Gone," and "Future Trippers."

Abandon Ship definitely has found something great here. It's a smorgasbord of beauty, insight and emotions all encapsulated in a variety of sounds and enchanting harmonies. I found the album both fun and soothing and will turn to it when I need to relax and unwind.

Great album

This CD is amazing. Different songs remind me of artists ranging from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young to the Postal Service, but somehow the album hangs together in a very coherant musical whole. The lyrics are poetic and meaningful. In my opinion, this is Abandon Ship's best album yet. I really like the new directions they're going with this.

Listen To This For Your Life To Instantly Improve.
author: Alexander Rhue
Simply put, Abandon Ship is an amazing band.
They just get better and better with each new release they put out. The most exciting thing about The Best Game is how well the songs compliment each other. Instead of one or two standouts and the rest is white noise, they give you a very well-tied together album. The catchy melodies and guitars (the bass line alone on Expressway explains the meaning of life with a few simple notes) give you the feeling that you’re on your way to someplace miraculous in your life.
I put on this CD, and all my problems are gone for 47 minutes. It’s fantastic. A true musical journey.
I can’t guarantee you’ll love it, because that would be silly, but I CAN guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.
But I’d put my beans on you loving it.
