Album Notes

April Beth Armstrong Campbell is currently based in the Worcester/Boston, MA area with continued close ties to her family and friends in Connecticut.

April has a very versatile voice and found it hard to limit her demo CD to just four styles, but you can find a wide representation of her skills on this four-song release: Track one is an oldie cover song of Dusty Springfield's; the other three tracks are original tunes by Harry King, one of which April helped write: Track 2, "Love Song" (the one April helped write) is a power pop ballad, track 3 is a bluesy rock tune ("Cruisin' from the Blues") and track four ("How Will I Know?") is a soundtrack ballad written for a Sundance Film Festival movie.

She enjoys singing all different kinds of music, from opera arias to hard rock songs, and has done so in her part-time capacity as a wedding and reception singer, party host, karaoke host, opening act. While she has her own distinct voice, she slips easily into many different singing styles and has more than once been told that her listeners think they are listening to the original recordings! There are few styles she doesn't enjoy trying out!

April is currently the lead vocalist for the Boston area band Common Ground-check them out at www.commongroundbandboston.com

April has performed Off-Broadway as well as at dinner theatres, Disney World, the Top of the Hub and has done professional theatre at Long Wharf in CT and Yale Rep. She has opened concerts for Livingston Taylor (as part of one of her two college acappella groups) and Rick James (as a solo performer) and performed at numerous venues in New England and NY.

April is currently employed as a veterinary technician at VCA Northboro Animal Hospital and Animal Shelter, Inc of Sterling, MA and is also attending classes fulltime at Assumption College in hopes of pursuing a doctor of veterinary medicine degree. She is already a graduate of Colby College.

Now This Is Quality!

How good a singer is Ms. Armstrong? Consider this: two of the four songs on her demo are of the pop-ballad variety, a musical style I usually dislike. Well, she made me like 'em! This album is a winner. Not only do these songs showcase the strength of her voice and an astonishing range (her bio lists a wide variety of influences, and after hearing these songs I believe she can do them all), but they also allow her natural charisma to come across. This is what lifts Ms. Armstrong above the crowd. On "Son Of A Preacher Man" there is both smoky soulfulness and a playful mischief in her voice, utterly unforced and totally engaging. Decent singers are a dime per bagful, but a real Performer is rare, and special. I for one hope to hear this young woman on my car radio very soon!
