Abby Parks showcases her songwriting talent on her debut album "Moving On," an interesting mix of folk, country, and pop. Her mellow vocals are sometimes reminiscent of Joni Mitchell, but with a soulful, romantic edge all her own. Lyrics of love, loss, and hope are set to moving tracks that embody her style--at times energetic and gritty, and at others, melancholic and reflective. All tracks are supported by Abby's classic guitar stamp--uniquely crafted finger-style accompaniment or driving acoustic rhythm guitar.
Classically trained in guitar, Abby earned her B.A. in Music at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, and now teaches guitar privately at a college prep school and a studio. She began writing songs, however, long beforehand. Her musical journey began at age 12 when she received her first guitar as a birthday gift from her parents. She took a liking to it immediately, took some lessons, and then taught herself classical guitar until she graduated high school. She also grew up singing in school choirs and churches, and toured with a six-part a cappella group called Profile while attending college in Colorado. About this time she began to write her own songs, something she had dreamed of doing since her childhood. Places she has lived in her past (Georgia, Germany, England, and Colorado among them) have become the inspiration for many of her lyrics including the haunting German legend "Lorelei," as well as the romantic tune "Western Desert Sun," the tale of a young woman who has run off with a desperado. Both these tracks are included in her album, where Abby not only wrote all the songs included on it, but also played the instruments on all of the tracks.
If you are in the mood to be transported to other times and places aboard the vehicle of music, this album will be just the ticket for "moving on."

Impressive Debut
author: Jason Bennett
This is a very impressive debut from an obviously gifted songwriter and guitarist. "Western Desert Sun" is about as close to a debut masterpiece as you will find. Textured landscapes of cactus, prairie wind and some fine, delicate guitar playing accompany Ms. Parks on a journey, which I am happy to say, is just beginning. Keep an eye on Abby, as it appears that her music will be around for a long time.
