Album Notes

Abigail's Ghost is an art rock band comprised of five people committed to a well-tempered musical aesthetic deeply rooted in groove, polyrhythms, lush harmonies, haunting ambience, and thinking man's lyrics. More fundamental is their commitment to creating multi-format material, resulting in a convergence of musical thought that extends beyond hybrid genres but maintains a certain distance from concepts of the avante-garde.

Closer to Porcupine Tree than what I’ve heard so far, and that’s GOOD!

Yes, this is really close to PT, but it’s not PT. It’s Abigails Ghost, and WHAT A BAND they are! The sound, production, the melodies, how the band plays – this really is simply ear candy. If you’re a fan of Porcupine Tree, Tool, Pink Floyd and stuff like that, you just CANNOT miss out this one. Abigails Ghost’s “Selling Insincerity” is one of my favorite CD’s at the moment, and I think it will stay one of my favorites for a long time to come. I can’t express myself how good I think this album is! The complete CD is just awesome, so if you like this style of music, buy it! – FAST :-) One word to describe it; FANTASTIC! If I could give the CD 6 stars, I would, but 5.9 will do. I’m waiting for a follow-up to this great CD from Abigails Ghost.

Very close to PT. But definitely they have their own style too. Highly recommended to PT fan.

Very Nice!

well if you a porcupine tree fan it's quite obvious Abigail’s Ghost is very much influenced by there music as well as much of Steven “frowns-a-lot” Wilson’s other projects. Being as big of a PT fan as I am, I absolutely love there sound- obviously – I’d be a real hypocrite if I didn’t . Despite there attempts to copy the PT vibe of the “In absentia” “Deadwing” era, there’s definitely some originality there, and personally I’d like to hear it more on there next album. Either way “Selling Insincerity” is a beautiful haunting prog-rock album, with plenty of hard metal riffs and crushing guitars. I am looking forward to more from this band! 4 stars!!!!

I’ll keep my eye on them

Before I go any further, I would like to say that I heavily enjoyed this CD and I plan on purchasing future albums by them. Waiting Room and Mother May I are fine examples of what this band can do. Lush melodies and encompassing atmosphere. The artwork and the production is also pretty damn impressive. The other reviewers have already pointed out that Abigail’s Ghost have a similar sound to Porcupine Tree, but it is a statement that doesn’t quite say it. For example, the track Love Sounds almost feels like they were trying to rewrite PT’s masterpiece Gravity Eyelids (with the guitar solo from Dream Theater’s Misunderstood thrown in). It is the same with the following track, Sellout, with regards to PT’s Open Car. Listen to the tracks back to back and you will hear what I mean. Even so, they do a good job (as opposed to Cerulean Blue, which is like a botched blend of The Creator Had A Mastertape/Strip the Soul). They really have everything down pat though, Steven Wilson’s vocal phrasing and accent to Gavin Harrisons rhythmic styling. Kudos for that. Despite wearing their influences on the sleeve for this record, I think good things will come of this band. Many of my favorite bands have started off being called rip offs or copiers of some sort. For fans of PT (obviously), Tool, OSI, Oceansize, and bands in the same vein.
