notes
Abigail's Ghost is an art rock band comprised of five people committed to a well-tempered musical aesthetic deeply rooted in groove, polyrhythms, lush harmonies, haunting ambience, and thinking man's lyrics. More fundamental is their commitment to creating multi-format material, resulting in a convergence of musical thought that extends beyond hybrid genres but maintains a certain distance from concepts of the avante-garde.

Very Nice!
author: Alec Wildeywell if you a porcupine tree fan it's quite obvious Abigail’s Ghost is very much influenced by there music as well as much of Steven “frowns-a-lot” Wilson’s other projects. Being as big of a PT fan as I am, I absolutely love there sound- obviously – I’d be a real hypocrite if I didn’t . Despite there attempts to copy the PT vibe of the “In absentia” “Deadwing” era, there’s definitely some originality there, and personally I’d like to hear it more on there next album. Either way “Selling Insincerity” is a beautiful haunting prog-rock album, with plenty of hard metal riffs and crushing guitars. I am looking forward to more from this band! 4 stars!!!!
I’ll keep my eye on them
author: Sean ThibaudeauBefore I go any further, I would like to say that I heavily enjoyed this CD and I plan on purchasing future albums by them. Waiting Room and Mother May I are fine examples of what this band can do. Lush melodies and encompassing atmosphere. The artwork and the production is also pretty damn impressive. The other reviewers have already pointed out that Abigail’s Ghost have a similar sound to Porcupine Tree, but it is a statement that doesn’t quite say it. For example, the track Love Sounds almost feels like they were trying to rewrite PT’s masterpiece Gravity Eyelids (with the guitar solo from Dream Theater’s Misunderstood thrown in). It is the same with the following track, Sellout, with regards to PT’s Open Car. Listen to the tracks back to back and you will hear what I mean. Even so, they do a good job (as opposed to Cerulean Blue, which is like a botched blend of The Creator Had A Mastertape/Strip the Soul). They really have everything down pat though, Steven Wilson’s vocal phrasing and accent to Gavin Harrisons rhythmic styling. Kudos for that. Despite wearing their influences on the sleeve for this record, I think good things will come of this band. Many of my favorite bands have started off being called rip offs or copiers of some sort. For fans of PT (obviously), Tool, OSI, Oceansize, and bands in the same vein.
Abigail's Ghost has extreme haunting talent! A++!
author: Metal_CYes there is a strinking similarity between Abigail's Ghost and the UK's almighty masters of Art-Rock: Porcupine Tree as well as TOOL but, there is much more to this band than that, they express sheer brilliance in their songwriting and musicianship. The is the best release of the 2007 so far (most likely the whole year!). This is also a band with concrete sound, talent and production, not to mention a band that definitly delivers 110% pure artistic quality, in the Alterna-Rock/Art Rock gendre. A must have!
Masterpiece!
author: sziti (from Hungary EU)Porcupine Tree is one of my favorite bands. ... and Selling Insincerity one of my top albums of this year. Not only for PT-feeling - simply for music. Brilliant! (6/5:-))
Selling Insincerity is an amazing piece of neo progressive rock
author: Carlos ValenciaThis album struck me in a remarkable way. I stumbled across this music on MySpace and fell in love with the early demos immediately. Upon hearing the completed version almost a whole year later, I am amazed at the technicality and finesse of the production of such a young band. The music is no less unique and overwhelming. If Porcupine Tree and Tool had a love child who listened to the Sneaker Pimps and Akira Yamaoka, this would be it. A very unique blend of modern progressive styles with otherworldly melodies and arrangements. A must have for any prog or rock fan.
