Above the Love is a hard working rock and roll band from Tempe, AZ. Despite being a trio, Dan Scianna (guitar and lead vocals), Shawn Tavis Mayer (drums and backing vocals) and Sunir Patel (bass) create a huge sound. Drawing on a vast, eclectic base of influences that includes The Beatles, The Pixies, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Rage Against the Machine, Paul Simon, and many others.

Dan, Sunir, and Shawn all have musical resumes that include many successful Tempe acts which have graced the stages of many Phoenix-area venues ranging from local clubs like Chasers Nightclub to bigger venues like the Marquee Theatre (a favorite hall for national and regional acts).

These three veterans of the music scene joined together in 2007 to render an original rock sound where each song has a unique, fresh feel. Dan, the principal songwriter, brings traditional rock and roll roots with a focus on infectious melodies. Shawn Tavis boasts a jazz and funk background and supplies the backbeat and dreamy harmonies. Sunir, drawing on a reggae and hip-hop based sound adds the flavor and the groove.
