Album Notes

Sub Sonic / Super Sonic is Tom's second album. It was recorded in Cape Town, South Africa, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Track # 1 is about being happy – whatever unpleasantness you were experiencing, is now over, and you’re in the home stretch.

# 2 – partly in response to the crime rate in South Africa. And the title gives a nod to the Lene Lovitch song “My Lucky Number Is One.”

# 3 about the macho front men put up, and the stress that creates.

# 4 is about wanting to wind the clock back to childhood, and have a second chance at life, this time getting things right.

# 5 is a love song, a declaration of loyalty.

# 6 – this type of music is known as “farmer’s music,” and to shiver and to shake is what you do when you’re very excited. Very, very excited.

# 7 is about wishing one could get out of a small town one grew up in, to something more exciting out there, even the traffic jams.

# 8 – a love song for a lover who passed away.

# 9 – once again, a song about stupid macho bravado, how the roles men play get them to live lives they detest.

# 10 – about trying to understand and have compassion for someone else’s troubles.

Sub Sonic / Super Sonic is about the sounds which are either too low or too high for the human ear – something that the outsider in Tom can relate to. For more information, visit www.aboycalledtom.com

REVIEWS

Creative Experimental CD
author: William and The RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
"Sub Sonic/Super Sonic" by Tom is experimental big beat rockabilly (leaning toward "Gothabilly") complete with grit and grime. This CD is filled with heavy distortion mixed with a vintage guitar sound overlaying synthetic drum sounds. A variety of guitar, synthesizer, random sounds and drum sounds are used in the creative production and songwriting on this CD. This is definitely not formulaic mainstrem music. The arrangements are fresh, experimental and daring. Highlights are "I'm Going to Build a House," which introduces a synth element and symbolic, spoken word lyrics. "Shiver 'n' Shake" has a catchy beat and guitar track building up to a memorable chorus backed by heavily distorted guitar, and some interesting whistling fills. If you like "The Cramps" and "The Reverend Horton Heat," you will enjoy this one.
