VOICING SUPPORT FOR OUR TROOPS
Detroit, MI - November 1, 2004 - Thousands of U.S. troops stationed around the world are far from home but very near at heart this holiday season. To honor the sacrifices being made by our military personnel and their families, singers Karen Newman and Steve Acho combined their voices to create and release "Christmas Without You," an original duet dedicated to all of the U.S. troops and their families at home and abroad.
"This is our way of saying 'thank you' to the troops," explained Karen Newman, best known in Detroit as the "voice of the Red Wings" for her powerful performance of the National Anthem at each of the team's home games. "Both Steve and I feel very fortunate about our lives here in America and we want to tell those who are fighting for our safety and quality of life, that their sacrifice is appreciated."
In addition to dedicating "Christmas Without You" to the troops and their families,
Karen and Steve are donating a portion of the proceeds from their newly released CD single to the Army Emergency Relief Organization. More information about this nonprofit organization that helps soldiers and their dependents is available at www.aerhq.org.
"We want to give something back," explained Steve. "No one in my family is currently positioned overseas, but there are members of the U.S. military all around the world protecting our country, who don't get to be with their family for the holidays. So we're dedicating to them this song about being away from someone you love."
"Christmas Without You" isn't the first time Steve Acho has voiced his patriotism through music. His original song "United We Stand," featured on his CD "Politix," was composed to honor the victims of the attack on the Word Trade Center. In 2002, Steve performed "United We Stand" at the 9/11 Anniversary Tribute Concert at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington DC, along with Randy Travis and other music celebrities. "Music is the best way for me to express my feelings," said Steve. "It's also healing, and I hope my music has a similar affect on others who hear my songs."
Karen Newman also has a history of using her time and talents to serve the community, and she immediately embraced Steve's invitation to collaborate on this project. "I was impressed with Steve's music from the first time I heard it," said Karen, "and his song "Christmas Without You" is my favorite. Recording a duet together was a wonderful opportunity to work with a talented musician and make a difference this holiday season."
