Album Notes

about Acoustic Son -Acoustic Son is a San Francisco based band blending the style of Fleetwood Mac with a taste of Dave Matthews for a uniquely enjoyable acoustic sound. With voices rich as heavy cream, singer/songwriters Ken Kingsbury and Carolyn Shaw entertain with a strong repertoire of original songs. Acoustic Son's live shows always sparkle with melodic, driving energy. With songs driven by the emotionally-tinged education of a passionate life, Acoustic Son's new CD, Time in the Middle, is an harmonic journey that takes you through heartfelt ballads and richly textured melodies. Produced by Bonnie Hayes, and featuring some of the Bay Area's finest musicians, Time in the Middle, captures all of the energy of Acoustic Son's live shows and adds all the clarity, permanence, and soulfulness that make up a great CD.

Acoustic Son began at a Thanksgiving gathering in 1999 while singing improvs around the dinner table. They soon began to play at open mics and were asked to be the featured band at the historic Hotel Utah. Acoustic Son has played many venues in the San Francisco area, including: 19 Broadway, Hotel Utah, the Bazaar Café, Cafe du Nord, Pat O'shea's, Pioneer Saloon, Cafe Amsterdam, Ireland's 32, the Cannery, the Curve, Caffe Trieste, Rasellas, and Thee Parkside. Acoustic
Son has also performed at many music festivals and fairs playing orginal music along with a wide range of covers, putting their distinct interpretations on songs from artists such as Sheryl Crow, Neil Young, Ben Harper, and many more!

I have all three of their CD's. All three are great works. I love this CD and I have had it for sometime now. Great vocals, and harmony. Well written music too. Listen to the samples on all three of their CD's. You won't be disappointed. I just hope I can see them live some day.

I had the opportunity to hear Acoustic Son perform when I was in visiting San Francisco and immediately fell in love with their original tunes. The CD is wonderful: rich with great lyrics, musical arrangements and vocals.

Acoustic Son shines in the interpretive mood of the landscape of song!

"Blending broken-heart lyrics with richly textured melodies, Acoustic Son could be the next group to emerge from the long tradition of San Francisco singer-songwriter groups to reach the spotlight . . . In the long history of invention and recreation, Acoustic Son shines in the interpretive mood of the landscape of song." - Tom Mazzolini, KPFA-FM, Berkeley

Hip arrangements, great harmonies

I first heard Acoustic Son at a gig. I was in awe. What had been missing from the SF Bay Area music scene for the last 25 years had unfolded before me: A band with strong lead and backing vocals, hip arrangements and lyrics that stir the senses. Wow. In an age of Ashlee Simpson, Brittany Spears, the Back Street Boys and InSync Acoustic Son is the precious relief from the hype of Plastic Surgery Pop music. Their 2nd CD "Time in the Middle" is a collection of precious insights to the soul, the everyday quandaryies of life and the precarious nature of love. You have to have this in your collection.
