This song was written around the time Barack Obama was running for the presidency of the United States. As the first black man nominated for that position, Barack Obama acquired so much love and popularity from every ethnic background, to the point of achieving a goal that seemed to have been impossible. During his campaign, the type of negative publicity that I've witnessed coming from every angle: the media, television and radio stations, bumper stickers, co-workers of mine who are Caucasian, even my own brother who's of African descent stood against Obama's presidency; all that made me realize that no matter what stupendous history that's on the verge of being made, or by whom, there will always be a group or a person who will stand against it, regardless of the great changes that history may bring. I have watched campaign discussions before, between canditates of the same skin color, but the campaign between Obama and his Caucasian opponents was down-right durtier than the previous ones in my view. There were Caucasian people who bluntly stood against Obama not because of his policies but because of the color of his skin, that to me was not simply racism and hatred, it was disrespectful and insensitive not just to the man running the race but also to a people, even to the human race. I was inspired by all those factors, to write this song, and put a little of my immeasurable feeling into it. The song is entitled "EFFECT" because I was effected by the negativity I heard and saw during that particular time in history, topping other negative histories I've been trying to cope with from previous injustices I know of or have experienced on a personal level.
