Adam Brock : All Jazzed Up

A Jazz vocalist that may take you by surprise. He has been labeled to have the vocal quality of Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, and Frank Sinatra. His "scat singing" is something that few current male vocalists try to tackle. Enjoy.

Album Notes

I am thrilled to announce my newest CD. All Jazzed Up is a great compilation of Jazz standards, both known and obscure. One of the things I strive in all my performances is to breath new life into songs that may have become dated in the musical world. I also wanted to take this time on this CD pay homage to some of the great singers that have affected my voice, and the vocal map of Jazz singing as a whole. Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Louis Prima, and Louis Armstrong all are singers that are well worth revisiting. I also have formed myself as a scat singer over the past years. It is an art form that is not touched by many current Jazz singers, and even fewer males out of this genre. The band on this CD is also worth the listening to. Pittsburgh’s premiere Jazz Combo, Trio Bravo, with the incomparable John D’Amico on piano, Virgil Walters on Bass, and Lenny Rogers on drums. John D’Amico also did all of the arranging for this recording as well. Please visit my website: www.adamdouglasbrock.com for more information on my artwork and me. Look for my Christmas CD, From Me, To You on CD Baby as well. Thanks!

"...The Washington County native now studying in Harrisburg presents 14 songs such as "Oh Lady Be Good," "Hallelujah, I Love Her So" and "When I Fall in Love." He has a voice with power, but always is in control. Brock also has a good sense of scat-singing. His ability to handle uptempo material, such as the classic "Frim-Fram Sauce" is easily his strongest suit. Slower songs, such as "When I Fall in Love," are done with a good sense of melody, but with less imagination. He does do a touching job on "Blame it On My Youth," though. The album also features good backup work from a trio led by pianist John D'Amico and a guest visit by guitarist Dan Shields and saxophonist Steve Guinta. We deserve to hear more of Brock."
~ Bob Karlovits, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (02/11/2007)

"Overall, it is a pretty exciting CD... You are strong on your "Rhythm Tunes" and "off beat" songs such as Frim Fram and Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens."
~ Joe Negri, Pittsburgh (04/15/2007)

Adam, Totally the Best!!!!

Adam Brock\'s CD, All Jazzed Up, should go down as one of the very finest vocal male jazz recordings in the history of the USA. Adam excels beyond any newcomer\'s efforts and his deep and hauting vocalese is completely unlike any jazz singer I have known. One of the most beautiful tunes is The Dummy Song, which is soul-wrenching and joyful to listen to. Adam sings from his soul and the powerful emotional impact of his voice is immediately gratifying. Adam\'s choice of songs is as diverse as his vocal style. This CD is gorgeous. Adam, you are a well-deserved gift and rarity for all of us.

I love Adam Brock's music. I keep this CD in the CD player in my car; every time I turn on the ignition . . there he is . . singing to me again. I have done that with some other favorite CD's, but none of them have made it past two weeks straight. This CD has been out there for at least eight weeks, through a number of snow storms and digging out. We sing together through it all. I'm the only person in the neighborhood smiling and shoveling. It's great. I feel his music in my body. Quincy Jones once said, "I can tell within the first three-four notes if the music was by a black artist, because you can feel the music in your body. White music/musicians can be very fine technically, but you don't feel their music in your body." Brock is an exception, . . a white man who has learned from our black brothers and sisters (especially Ella). . . how to sing with soul. His music makes me feel more alive, more engaged with life. Brock's music and his interpretations of the songs me happy. Even the ballads make me happy because they are sung with such thoughtfulness and sensitivity. I am always happy when there are thoughtful sensitive people in my life, whether I know them personally or not. Thank you, Adam, for developing your gifts and sharing them with all of us.
