Adam Cord has spent several years exploring many types of acoustic guitar styles, and has brought them together on Hymn Heritage, his new CD. Hymn Heritage is a nostalgic look at some of the church music he loved most as a child, presented in challenging and artistic guitar arrangements. Most of the CD is instrumental solo acoustic guitar, but he did spice up a choice handful of songs with violin and vocals.
Adam draws his biggest influences from Phil Keaggy and Billy McLaughlin, among others, but has blended those influences into his own unique approach to guitar playing and arranging. After a couple years of performing in the Akron/Canton area of Ohio, Adam noticed how well-received his hymn arrangements were as a part of his normal set of originals and cover songs of his favorite guitarists. He thought that there was no better way to thank his Creator than to record, to the best of his ability and skill, a CD of songs whose only function was to praise. Hymn Heritage is the fruit of that labor.
In addition to Adam's arrangements, 'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus was arranged by 2000 National Fingerpicking champion Pete Huttlinger, who graciously gave Adam permission to record his song. If you have a fondness for church hymns that may not be heard as much anymore, or if you enjoy instrumental acoustic guitar in the vein of Keaggy, McLaughlin, Hedges, and others, you're sure to find something you like on Hymn Heritage.
