Album Notes

Who is Adam Stahlberg?

I’m 22 year old singer/songwriter hailing from the best Midwest City, Chicago. Personally Chicago is the best city!

How do you go about writing your songs?

Well I always keep a little book next to me just in case I think of something. I’ll jot it down and leave it for awhile. Eventually I’ll come back to it with notes or chords from my guitar. If I don’t have that book I usually find something such as a paper plate or napkin..something like that. It’s weird too because “Caught in Between” and “Suburban Life” took me about 10 minutes to write. I wish I had that power for every song.

What are your songs about?

To me the songs are about personal feelings. Very personal like someone would be telling their psyche or counselor or something. Feelings such as alcohol, relationships, sometimes even things that could happen in the future. Other than that just listen and see what you make of them.

Why call your self by your own name? Why not call your self something different?

Calling myself by my given name was easiest to me. Plus the band is Adam Stahlberg, just me. A dear friend Jameson Zaerr helps fill in for my second guitar parts at most shows. When I first started getting things going the name was ‘The Haladays’ which was named after the street my parents live on. I have thought over and over to this day about calling myself Adam Paul, but something Adam Stahlberg seems better to me.

How long have you been playing music?

I have been playing guitar for almost 2 years now (long story), and coming up on a year with piano. I sort of fell into the guitar one weekend when I was visiting my grandma. Her friend had a bunch of guitars in her basement and I picked it up and learned Modest Mouse’s “Bankrupt on Selling,” from there I knew I wanted to play. I am always interested in learning new instruments because it is better to broaden your music horizon plus it makes the music more interesting. If anyone meets me then I will tell the longer version of the guitar story.

Why did you start playing this type of music?

This one is tough. I really did not know what type of music I wanted to play. I just wanted to play. But about a year ago I found a Matt Marque album “Nothing Personal” and fell in love with it. After that he became a huge inspiration to my music. The weird thing is, I actually met him and became friends with him. He is an amazing person, very down-to-earth. He has helped me with my music by giving me pointers on what works best. Also, my music instructor got me into The Beatles and Elliott Smith. I guess my music has a Beatles, Elliott Smith-esque because I listen to their albums non-stop. Recently I started listening to Elliott Smith and I was amazed with his talent, so I guess he is also a huge influence.

What’s the future for Adam and his music?

You know I don’t know, I just want to keep playing shows like I am and hope that people enjoy the tunes. I want them to appreciate what I am doing because it is not an easy task. To me personally whatever happens, happens. I just want my music to reach people and have them say “man I know what he was going through” or something like that. I just want to play.

Any final comments or any thing you just want to fucking say?

Yeah. Thanks to everyone who has been listening and supporting, I hope you keep doing so. Spread the word about my music…the good word. Thanks to Matt Marque, Around The Way, family and friends. I love you all, you are darlings!
