notes
Through a generation where terms like "disposable music" and "label-manufactured" are often used in reference to the music industry emerges ADELYN, a passionately original and hard-working quartet set on doing things the old fashioned way; winning over the masses one by one. Since it's initial conception in Virginia in early 2002, Adelyn has been dedicated to bringing powerhouse live performances to enthusiastic audiences across the Mid-Atlantic region, earning them slots performing with the likes of Incubus, Something Corporate, My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights, Yellowcard, Velvet Revolver, Hoobastank, The Receiving End of Sirens, Emery, Silverstein, Silvertide, My American Heart, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, The Format, alexisonfire, Kiss, Poison, Edwin McCain, Tourmaline, and others along the way. With a rapidly growing fanbase and a tireless work ethic, Adelyn continues to grow as one of the most promising names in the Mid-Atlantic rock circuit.
"It's really about honesty for us," says guitarist J.K. Royston. "It's about how the right note played the right way can make your spine tingle. We want every note to send you spiraling through the emotions that only music can." In every recording and live performance, Adelyn establishes its signature sound as dynamic and intricate, radiating with a sense of urgency in its melodic and rhythmic composition. Imagine a fusion combining the intensity and drama of melodic modern rock with a distinct indie twist. Lyrically, vocalist Ryan Parrish explores emotional themes taken from all points of the human condition with a degree of social relevence and maturity far beyond his years. The big picture? "A lot of it is about trust," Parrish explains. "A lot of times, getting what we want out of life is as simple as pointing yourself in one direction and running with it. The real question often isn't of which direction to point ourselves in, but whether we trust ourselves enough to take that first step."
Three years of passionate performances, heartfelt songwriting, and growing up has built Adelyn into what it is today; a maturing band with an unyielding drive to create meaningful and relevant music. In April 2005, Adelyn released their long anticipated debut full length, All Systems Are Down. "We didn't want record a collection of songs," Parrish insists. "We wanted to make something that might drive you to think about things in your own life from a different perspective." He smiles and adds, "It's not exactly a concept album, but it's definitely an album with concept, if you know what I mean." All Systems Are Down showcases the dependency between impulse and gracefulness, exploring the beauty in life that is so often hidden during darker times. "It's definitely a dark record," Royston elaborates. "But it's not dark in the way that most people would expect. No doubt these songs deal with some of the darker aspects of life. But if you listen close, you might find something beautiful amidst it all."
This year has brought Adelyn both new challenges and opportunities even without the support of a record label or booking agency. "Things have really picked up since we released the full length [All Systems Are Down, 2005]," bassist Dan Mineart explains. "We're touring a lot more consistently than we ever have before while still trying to push ourselves to the next level for the next record." Adelyn independently booked and performed a 50+ date regional tour this summer, including several East Coast dates on the Vans Warped Tour, a showcase at the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis, and dates opening for Silvertide, Hoobastank, Velvet Revolver, and Judas Priest. Additionally, they were accepted for and performed showcases at music conferences in Fall 2005 including CMJ (New York NY), the Dewey Beach Music Festival (Dewey Beach DE), and NEMO (Boston MA). "We're just trying to stay out there and play as many shows as we can right now," says drummer Justin Turner. "Performing is one of our favorite parts about what we do, so we're just trying to put the show in front as many people as we can."
Adelyn continues to place a strong emphasis on charity and giving back to the community. "We really try to keep things in perspective," Royston confides. "Because at the end of the day, there are so many people out there who are saving lives and doing far more important jobs than we are. We're blessed to be doing what we love, to have such a hard working support staff, to have such supportive families and friends and fans, and to have each other. We all believe that it's our responsibility as a band to do anything we're capable of to give back some of the charity we've been blessed with to those less fortunate." A percentage of all album sales from All Systems Are Down is donated monthly to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Adelyn also continues to perform free benefit concerts as well as enthusiastically donating their time and music freely to those in need.

Hard to believe their not together anymore
author: Don PriceI only wish I had found out about them earlier - best of luck guys - dp
Adelyn seems to be wise beyond their years.
author: StephanieI bought this CD after seeing these guys live. It wasn't so much the music as the maturity and depth of their work and sincerety of their performance. Although All Systems is generally dark, Adelyn pulls off a sense of hope in what they write about. Mostly though, I appreciate their passion for charity. There is nothing more important than knowing that our ultimate responsibility while we're here on earth is to help those in need and less fortunate than we are. Keep on guys.
This band is going places, amazing!
author: allieThis is such an awesome CD, i've reccomended it to so many people...the lyrics are so deep and the musics just beautiful, plus i love ryan's voice. i saw the guys at warped tour and they were awesome, and getting to talk to them afterwards was the best part because they're just like the nicest, most genuine people ever. interesting tidbit: i was talking with one of their road associates and told him i liked the cover, and he said the flowers were fake ones at a pizza place they just put on the table, took a picture of and had their friend photoshop. i just thought it was cool, they're just all really chill...yeah check ouy their site, purevolume, myspace, and aim (adelynrock), and definitely watch out for this band hitting it big!
solid entertainment
author: MexicoThis debut album from Harrisonburg, VA located Adelyn certainly qualifies as a quality premier CD, with each song contributing to an overall atmosphere of the album that in the end proves to be somewhat limited in scope. While certainly not to suggest their sound is cookie-cutter derived, they objectively share similar musical characteristics to other alternative/rock/punk bands, most notably The Receiving End of Sirens, Incubus and Hoobastank. It is obvious throughout the album the musicians have a good grasp of musical theory and are very comfortable playing within the context of each other's instruments, each one at various times taking over and toning down as is necessary for the success of the song. However, the driving force behind this album is most definitively the guitarist, whose adept use of distortion and other effects combined with quality riffs assure each song is at the very least a listenable peice. The bassist shows signs of a Paul d'Amour style, many times playing the bass more as a guitarist would then the usual relatively subdued styles of most rock band bassists. The drummer shows excellent grasp of technical skills, ensuring most bridges transition seamlessly within each song, and adds a discernable kick to many songs through the use of double bass. The singer is more then adequate for the sound the band aims to achieve, consistently hitting a variety of notes keeping the sound varied enough to not stagnate. What keeps this band from being great instead of solid primarily consist of a few songs being rather formulaic, a certain redundancy in song structure and a few songs that would have perhaps been better left off the album. Songs which highlight the album include The Only Thing Certain, Truth Finds, For A Day, Faltered and Too Far, all possesing elements that set them apart within the album while still preserving the overall theme. Songs such as Burning all Bridges, Stumble On and Unforgettable were perhaps better saved for conert events, lacking enough substance to stand alone on the CD. Additionally, the singer has a habit off raising the vocal inflection (pitch) of a chorus at the end of a song as a means of building a climax, which sparsely done is certainly acceptable, but considering the band uses this technique at the latter stages of Everything, Faltered, Truth Finds, and All Systems are Down, the concept become rather repetitive. The group, though having a very polished sound for an independant release, could also slightly benifit from having a producer smooth out a few areas, most notably the tendency of the singer to throw in unecessary filler sounds (i.e. woowwwooohhhooooo) which are a little to permeating and end up detracting slightly from some songs. While not the most progressive, groundbreaking of peices of rock music, the band does have a comfortable, energetic style with several standout songs. Recommended purchase for those who like artists of this style.
freakin awesome
author: Joshua(to person below me it's "Add-ih-lynn" and say it semi-fast) This cd is so awesome. The only thing better than the Adelyn CD is them live. I suggest you buy this. This is nothing like Blink 182 or Green Day. It can only be compared to Incubus. Great lyrics and everything!
great tunes, duders!!!
author: the B-manIt seems like adelyn's got the formula for success. Wouldn't suprise me if they really blew up soon. The whole CD is good start to finish. I found out about them by crusin through MySpace. I dig the charity donations too. How do you pronounce the name properly?

I saw this band in Nags Head last summer and bought the cd after hearing one song. The cd is simply amazing, although it doesn't begin to touch on them live. I would love to see them in concert again. Amazing band, and they deserve to hit it big.
simply amazing
author: Ninai saw Adelyn in concert and they are just as good on the CD as they are live. the cd is amazing and definately see them in concert if you get the chance...and if you can go and talk to them theyre really nice:-)

author: Jason GieseI am nuts about music and honestly, hearing this band on purevolume was a treat. Really great music =). Just recieved the CD in the mail this past week and I haven't stopped listening to it. =)
Wow -- This is Good Rock! Took me by surprise...
author: MilesHighlights: The creativity and agility of the lead guitar in just about every track. The best bass lines I've heard in a long time; both as the foundation (Truth Finds) and as a compliment to the music as a whole (I really love the bass harmonies in Too Far between 1:23-1:38 and the frenzied walks from 3:08-3:37). The range and emotion in the vocals suck you in. Super percussion (check out the breakdown in The Only Thing Certain). Thoughful lyrics throughout (the message in For A Day will make you reflect). Summary: You should check this out, 'cause everyone will be hearing a lot about these gents real soon.
Greatest. CD. Ever.
