Album Notes

This album is a collection of Afro-Cuban rhythmic forms. Knowledge of these rhythms is essential for any serious percussionist playing today's music. This is a chance for the listener to take several private lessons with a percussion master who has been playing for over forty five years. They are performed by Master Drummer Baba Adetobi (Balogun Onile Funsho) who has dedicated his life to the study, teaching and performance of this music. Each form is presented in the following manner- first with all its parts being played, then with each part explained and demonstrated. The rhythm is then presented without the part for practice by the listener. This album is intended as an educational aid for students but will in no way replace the need for an experienced teacher. The rhythms presented here are but one interpretation of the rich traditions of Afro-Cuban music, there are many others.
