Album Notes

This artist is based in Chicago.

Violets and Blues was recorded at Creative Caffeine Studios on Berryhill Drive in Nashville, TN, with engineer Collin Peterson. Musicians appearing are Andy Leftwich (Ricky Skaggs band), Dave Lawbaugh, Jerry Kimbrough, Michael Johnson (Bluer Than Blue), Corky Siegel, Jimmy Johnson (Chicago blues), Sam Levine, Matthew Burgess, Muriel Anderson, Wayne Dahl (Martina McBride), Jeff Brock, Donna Frost, Larry Hall, John Catchings and Jack Jezzro.

Track number two, "In Chicago" was recorded partly in Chicago and is a song that captures a cross section of the city (basically, everything I could think of rolled into 5 minutes), with Blues legend Jimmy Johnson playing electric lead guitar and Corky Siegel on harmonica. Track #5, Bob The Dogwalker, is a fun track with four part barbershop quartet harmonies sung by Creative Caffeine studio owner Jeff Brock.

Donna performs regularly in the Chicago area. She started out at the open stages at Earl's Pub (Earl of the legendary "Earl of Old Town"). Years later, Donna would join Tom Dundee participating in his "Somebody Else's Troubles Sundays" concert series at the same location.

She performed at the Uncommon Ground Coffeehouse for many years, and has also appeared at Schuba's, The Heartland Cafe, Charlie's Coffeehouse & Two Way Street Coffeehouse, and for Songwriters Night at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Donna's songs have been featured on Rich Warren's The Midnight Special, WDCB in Downer's Grove, WNUR in Evanston, IL and are currently receiving airplay on many independent folk/americana stations.

Recently Donna collaborated with friend John Ludwig, singing his song "Demon of Doubt" which currently can be heard in the soundtrack of the Robert Alaniz movie "The Vision." See www.thevisionmovie.com for more details.

Other recordings:
Alta Vista Sky - released 2002
All The Riches of the World - released l997

Sound Guy at Bill's Blues

The first time I heard Donna was at an open mic at Bill's where I was doing sound; she took my breathe away with the creative "Invisible Light". The next time I heard her was at a house concert where she sang with Buddy Mondlock. I atteneded her CD release party at Lilly's. Her range of styles and sounds, her writing and her very organic approach to her artistry is a bright light in an otherwise fairly dim world of contemporary music. Pure voice. pure artistry and pure fun with "Bob the Dogwalker"! WE WANT MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
