Album Notes

While on the road playing bass with John Brown’s Body from 1997 to 2002, David Solid Gould started combining the Hebrew melodies he heard as a child with the reggae music that has come to resonate in his soul. The result is a very eclectic sound combining the often haunting minor melodies with a traditional approach to the roots reggae and rockers sounds heard in Jamaican dance halls in the mid-late 1970s. Gould skillfully and very naturally crafts in elements of funk, soul, jazz and nyabinghi music.

Adonai and I is a ten-piece roots reggae band playing interpretations of traditional Hebrew music and features an all-star cast of some of the best reggae and dub players in the Northeast United States. Instrumentation includes organ, clav, drums, bass,2 guitars a 3-piece horn section, percussion, and vocals.

Adonai and I released their self-titled debut in 2001 on I-Town Records, selling over 3,000 copies. Adonai and Dub was also released in 2001 on Tzadik Records out of NYC.

After taking a break over the past several years, Adonai and I is back with a new record in production, "Feast of the Passover," scheduled for release in summer 2009. Feast of the Passover features the great Romanian saxophone player Yuri Yunakov on “L’Shanna Habba-ah” which can be sampled at www.sonicbids.com/adonaiandi.

Adonai and I plans to tour spring and summer 2009.
