Olivier Adoue, singer, songwriter and performer released his debut album Pêche aux Rêves in the spring of 2004, at the well-known cultural venue Café Utopik in Montreal. It is a collection of vocal and instrumental compositions that navigate the pathways between folk, jazz and world music.
As he wanted to maintain the live sound of his quartet, Olivier sought out the talents of producer Tim Doyle, in order to capture the acoustic and improvisational quality of his music. The final result is a soothing and inviting sound that encompasses a variety of rhythmic grooves.
The quartet found on Pêche aux Rêves is composed of accomplished musicians, who all share an interest for world music. Violinist Anit Ghosh (La Chango Family) manifests influences acquired during musical pilgrimages to India and Morocco during his renditions of “Baleine” and “New day’s theme”. Percussionist Anes Berlerbegovic (Les Gitans de Sarajevo), of Bosnian origin, adds the essential rhythmic elements in order to capture each song’s unique groove. He adapts effortlessly to the myriad of styles found on the album. The majestic sound of the upright bass, played by Josh Goldman and Seamus Cowan unifies the acoustic rhythm section. These musicians ingeniously lay down the foundation for this acoustic ensemble. Olivier sings in both French and English, revealing the uniqueness of each language when used in song.
Since the album’s release, several vocal and instrumental tracks from Pêche aux Rêves have aired on CBC and Radio Canada. “Lécher un coquillage” has since become the album’s title track, with its catchy melody and energetic lively rhythm, it is featured on several radio commercial radio playlists.
