Album Notes

”Compelling Southern California singer/songwriter/pianist Adrina Thorpe offers mesmerizing down-tempo rock-folk-pop. Though you may detect echoes of Tori Amos and other musical icons, Thorpe's lovely voice and profoundly moving songs enable her to carve a niche all her own. "Round the Bend" is an exquisite, soaring creation. Thorpe appears to be a talent on the brink of a major breakthrough.” –Palo Alto Daily News

"Thorpe's mastery of the keys is comparable to Sarah McLachlan and Norah Jones, while her breathy, airy vocal style is reminiscent of Enya and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer. ...Adrina Thorpe is destined for bigger and better things and could well lead the next generation of pianists/storytellers." MUSIC CONNECTION MAGAZINE

"an impressive debut album, packed with thoughtful
songs that are beautifully written, beautifully arranged,
beautifully performed and beautifully sung. Drawing deep
from the well of a host of great singer-songwriters, from
Carole King through to Tori Amos, Thorpe succeeds without
ever freefalling into the all too common trap of imitation. Rather, the album portrays a noble interplay of heritage and influence, and it's to startling effect. ...With lots more songs where these came from, Thorpe looks set to have a long and prosperous career." -thetrousers.co.uk

Adrina Thorpe's album, "elusive", contains 10 original songs written by Adrina Thorpe and produced by Dave Bassett (credits with Lisa Loeb, Evan & Jaron, etc.) and Phil Swann (credits with Lee Ann Womack, Helen Slater, etc.) "Adrina's going to make some noise in this racket everybody. Listen to her music and tell me I'm wrong...I dare you." ~Phil Swann

*******

Singer/songwriter and pianist, Adrina Thorpe, is a refreshing sound in adult alternative pop. Her style reflects the softer side of music, with a haunting voice and a delicate touch at the piano.

Adrina has been writing songs almost as long as she can remember. Her first song was written on a rainy car ride home when she was six. "All I can remember is looking through the foggy streaked window at little bursts of light outside in the pitch black sky, hearing the sound of the car's engine, and coming up with a song that brought me to tears that night. It was a song about a friend of mine who left our school without ever saying goodbye."

From that day on, Adrina's love of the more introspective melancholy song was established, as Adrina's list of favorite artists goes to show... Adrina has been inspired by artists on all ends of the musical spectrum, including Sarah McLachlan (Adrina's all time favorite artist), Coldplay, Five for Fighting, Tori Amos, Paula Cole, Dido, Evanescence and Chantal Kreviazuk. However her sound still retains its uniqueness. This may quite possibly be attributed to the fact that during Adrina's formative years she was completely immersed in classical music and musical theater. Adrina spent several years competing and winning several piano competitions, but it was truly the love of writing and singing that held a special place in her heart. Taking a songwriting class in Los Angeles, her instructor and classmates encouraged her to put out an album.

This album has gained an incredible underground following. Podshow.com says “with the voice of an "With the voice of an angel, Adrina's debut cd "Elusive" has kept her constantly in the Top 10 podsafe played songs.” The album has been licensed by Lifetime Cable and Warner Bros in film, tv, and online and has also been licensed by a number of independent filmmakers.

The album also recently got Adrina Thorpe noticed by DJ Shah and Armin Van Buuren (ranked #1 DJ in world) of Armada records. Adrina was asked to write a song for Armin Van Buuren's "A State of Trance 2007" CD with DJ Shah whose last collaboration was done with Sarah Mclachlan when he remixed Mclachlan's "Wintersong" album. Adrina Thorpe's collaboration with DJ Shah on Armin Van Buuren's album, "Who will find me" was recently commented on by Armin Van Buuren as being his favorite song of the year!

Adrina's debut album, "elusive" is full of intricate, poignant, honest, and gentle emotion. The initial release is almost sold out as we speak. Delicate piano melodies and lush vocals weave in and out of each other, drifting amid the punchy bass and drum lines. Wild and tame, strong and simple... the songs find their way into the deepest crevices of the heart. Like paper-thin china...like sunrise on the gray ocean waves...Adrina's melodies captivate listeners with their distinct beauty.

Brilliant!

I heard the track 'Fly' on a podcast and I thought 'wow that's a good track' then I heard it again on a different podcast a couple of weeks later and I thought 'that's not a good track, it's a brilliant track'. If I'd known that all the other tracks on the album were just as brilliant, I'd have bought it sooner! Adrina has a great voice and writes hauntingly beautiful songs. The piano work, the tempo, and the graceful use of pauses on some of these tracks reminds me of Einaudi. On the vocal side, if you like Lene Marlin you'll enjoy this too but not because they sound similar...they don't, rather because of the poignant, moving nature of the songs. Lene use mostly guitar-based melodies, Adrina mostly uses the piano so she has an altogether gentler sound.

I have never heard anything before from Adrina, because I am from Austria (Europe), till I bought the Cd "Armin van Buuren - A state of Trance". There was a track witch the beautiful vocals of Adrina, so I wanted to hear more of her and searched for her in the internet. I only can say, I love this Cd, eventhough I normally listen to Techno and Trance. Her voice is amazing and also the lyrics are.
