Album Notes

“I dare not write pop music; I won’t dumb down my music for anyone” says Aeolian Jazz composer and guitarist Johnny Newman. It was at his first concert in support of Aeolian Jazz that Newman stood off stage laughing at the mere shock his intro track gave his audience. “I don’t think they were expecting anything quite like that. I just remember everyone being caught off-guard as these avant-garde sounds blatantly interrupted their casual conversations.” As one can imagine, Newman takes pride in not conforming to the traditional sounds of rock or electronic music. The compositional genres of Aeolian Jazz spread through the genres of drum and bass, symphonic rock, heavy metal, and experimental electronica while under the influence of world, religious, and apocalyptic issues to form a completely unique fusion of earth-shaking compositions. As an electronic music composition major at the University of Tennessee, Johnny Newman continues to build on his experimental and electronic nature while doing concerts in support of his first full-length album Progressing Deviation.
