Album Notes

Aeriae is Sydney-based electronic composer/producer Wade Clarke. Aeriae's tracks pulse with all the addictive beat microscopy and spliced-atomic delights of avant-IDM artists such as Autechre and Retina.it, and wed these rhythms to conspicuous tonal beauty and classical music constructions. Rich organ lines, crystal-like textures and treated female voices wrap around tracks whose compass equally includes the song-like and the properly experimental.

The debut album 'Hold R1' follows a trajectory of electronic openness, allowing it to incorporate into its Intelligent Dance Music trappings everything from the white girl gabber of Novelle Sis to the Bach-like catchiness of AMay, to the slow-building sonic disintegration of ten minute closer Rizdvo.

Fans of Autechre, Aphex Twin, Philip Glass, The Black Dog, Prefuse 73 or the UK's Warp label in general will appreciate where this music is going, as will any fans of genuinely innovative electronica or longevous music.

Hold R1 is also available for digital download globally via iTunes and on CD from Australia's Waterfront Records.

ABOUT THE CD:

Hold R1 was mastered with tape-saturated goodness by Reece Tunbridge (Silverchair, The Grates, Sarah Blasko) at Benchmark Mastering in Sydney, August-September 2007.

The album comes in the form of an enhanced CD including the videoclip for AMay. (Check out the clip via the left hand menu link.) This vibrant animation was made over many months with Fantavision, software for the eight-bit Apple II computer. The clip is a love letter to the aesthetics of early videogames and their futurist dreams, as well as a retro-technical world first.

AERIAE QUICK PRESS:

Hold R1 was reviewed in the March 2008 edition of Cyclic Defrost magazine (link in left side menu) and in Wonkavision Magazine #43

Aeriae's music was picked up in 2006 through Unearthed, the ongoing competition for unsigned artists run by Australia's National Youth Radio Station, JJJ. 'Karpa' from Hold R1 featured as a weekly staff pick in October 2006 and Areola debuted on The Sound Lab program in December. Aeriae's tracks are streamed at garageband.com (9 x Track Of The Day between 2006-2008) and on LastFM, and have received much airplay in Australia, including rotation on FBi 94.5 FM. The amazing AMay animation has played at film festivals, as well as on the ABC's iconic and nationally broadcast 'Rage' program. Aeriae is active in the Sydney scene and has remixed such artists as Chaingang, Delta Goodrem, Retina.it and Catcall. The first Aeriae live shows took place in 2009 and the artist is working on the followup album 'Victris'.
