Album Notes

Liner Notes-Route 66

We had all worked with each other in different combinations but never altogether as a group. But, in June of 1991, that changed. Each of us had worked, at different times, on Natalie Cole's "Unforgettable, With Love" album. When it was finished and Natalie began preparations to go out on tour in support of the album, she and her producers put together a rhythm section as the core of her band.

We were it.

After a few months, George became involved with other projects that required enough of his time that continuing with the Natalie Cole Band was impractical. But the rest of us stayed for eight and a half years! During that time, the four of us frequently got together to do non-Natalie work. The association got better and better.

Route 66 came from our time spent with Natalie. She performed it in every concert we played for the entire 8 1/2 years! We have taken it a couple of steps farther, but it is essentially the same, minus the "scat" vocal we did with Natalie.

The rest of this collection of songs is just some things we like, done in the spirit of AFFINITY - just enough preparation to give it form, relying on each other for inspiration. It works!

Webster defines AFFINITY : sympathy marked by community of interest; kinship; likeness.

With us, it is all of that and more. We are extremely compatible both musically and personally. Very unusual and very rewarding.

- Jim Hughart
