NEW ATHENS, GA INDIE LABEL LAUNCHES WITH COMPILATION OF THE CITY’S HOTTEST UPCOMING AMERICANA/ROOTS-ROCK BANDS

Southern music mecca Athens, GA’s beer-fueled rock ’n’ roll tradition has just received its latest adrenaline injection. New compilation Greetings from Athens… A Drinking Town With a Music Problem features a loose co-op of artists with more heart than polish; bands who take as much pride in their homespun tales of heartbreak, woe and hard drinkin’ as they do their guitar or pedal-steel chops.

With this release, the city’s once scattered roots-rock/country/Americana scene has coalesced around newly launched, proudly independent record label, Hard Labor Productions.

The label’s first disc, Greetings From Athens features 14 songs from eight must-watch up-and-comers, including soulful Southern rockers Tishamingo, solid-gold country junkies The Chasers, featuring Clay Leverett (Now It’s Overhead, Bright Eyes) and John Neff (Drive-By Truckers, Star Room Boys), The Bearfoot Hookers (winner 2006 Flagpole Athens Music Award for Best Country/Americana/Roots-Rock), Redneck Underground revivalists Conor Rand & the Red Dirt Band, Brian Connell & the Dickens, Andrew Nelson & the Shotgun Lovers, Ken Williams (with the Communion Winos), plus charged-up purveyors of American rock ’n’ roll, Last Picture Show.
