Album Notes

Agonist started its gradual formation in the summer of 1997. Guitarist Aaron Homoya and bassist Josh Hedges decided to form a band that would put the westside of Indy on the musical map. That fall, the pair picked up drummer Anthony Reiss, a high school classmate. The trio built chemistry over the next few months, holding weekly jam sessions in which they dabbled in primarily blues and classic rock stylings.

These months of improv work brought the bandmates closer together as musician and friends, as well as defined the experimental style of rock and melody that would make up the backbone of Agonist's music for the years to come.

In winter of 1997, the band completed its original line-up by taking vocalist Dave Scott on board.

From the beginning, the band's members all contributed their personal influences and styles to the music to begin the evolution of Agonist's unique sound.

"Hyperglow" was the song that first epitomized the blending of each member's ideas into one solid product.

In the last quarter of 1998, Agonist recorded its first full-length album. This twelve-track freshman effort is mostly an exercise in the heavier side of classic rock with the metal, prog, and psychodelic elements that would later come to define Agonist budding on several tracks throughout the disc.

The album was released under the band's original name of "Undertow," the name would change several months later when the band discovered the name was already taken.

After over a year of continued live performance and writing new material, Agonist (newly-renamed) went back into the studio in the spring and summer of 2000 to record "Infinite Resistance," an album which encapsulated much of the band's large scope of musical curiosity and ability.

The band's music is made strong by its internal diversity and comradery between members, as well as its unified and intelligent Christian faith.

The band seeks to raise the bar of modern music, replacing image with musical substance, and trite lyrics with thoughtful commentary on practically all facets of human existence.

Band Members Dave Scott - Vocals As the voice and lyricist of the band, Dave works hard to write words that balance the esoteric with the basic, as well as vocal tracks that blend and accentuate the music.

Dave brings to the band the influences of Rollins Band, Black Sabbath and Fear Factory, and was the member who introduced the rest of the band to the obvious influence of TOOL.

Aaron Homoya - Guitars One of Agonist's two founding members, Aaron spends almost all his free time developing his skills in a variety of musical styles from heavy metal to classical. Aaron leads the band in developing fresh and ornate music for its songs. Aaron's admiration for David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and Dream Theater has much to do with the bands prog and emo elements.

Josh Hedges - Bass Josh is half of Agonist's founding duo. His articulate and lightening speed bass riffs force listeners from passing over him as a rhythym instrument and recognize his skill. His precocious ability allows him to take over as the lead instrument on several tracks. Josh's influences lie heavily in pure rock, both in its classical and present-day forms. He also shares Aaron's love of classical stylings. His attack and phrasing is quite similar to that of a jazz fusion bassist.

Anthony Reiss - Drums, Persussion Anthony is the ultimate example of raw talent in a drummer. His entertaining beats are often the key stitch holding Agonist's experimental music together. Anthony's highly energetic approach to music repeatedly serves a shot of adrenaline to this band's songs. Anthony seeks his inspiration from (as he himself might say) "good drummers." However, his specific influences include Primus and the Offspring, and he rivals Dave Scott as the bands biggest Metallica freak.

Well I haven't listened to it.........still. Nonetheless, I always had to hand it to the guys that they were purely creative. I guess I was just a little jealous. Well, I hope you're all well, and I'm sure still better than me so good providence to ya. (We know where some of the blues influence came from..... maybe.... just a little)---- case
