BIOGRAPHY
The Ahs are Tony Rogers, a classically trained cellist and, and Amy McIntire, singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
The duo met over breakfast in New Hampshire at the Peterborough Diner in the winter of 2005, and quickly became partners in music and in life. They moved to Portland, Oregon soon thereafter where Tony created the Portland Cello Project, just getting its start on the Kill Rock Stars label. Two years later they sold their bicycles and left their urban life preferring to live again in the country. Tony and Amy now reside in the mountains of Appalachia, growing native plants and playing native music.
Their unique sound combines the rich, open lows of the cello with the bright precision of the banjo. Two voices: one male and one female, sing intricate harmonies against the instrumental lines.
Their songs address themes of love, family, friendships, and nature.
Press:
"The Ahs make an uncommon variety of spare, haunting classical folk, occupying a delicate and gorgeous area between the spindly pluck of Amy McIntire's banjo and the lowing moan of Tony Rogers' cello."
_Portland Mercury: Jan 21, 2009

On the whole, quite unlike anything I've heard, yet familiar. The Ahs have a sense of melody and harmony all their own and their infusion of classical influences sets them apart. Beautiful stuff, this.
