Album Notes

Annie J. Dahlgren's "Fortunes Made" is wonderful, a totally absorbing journey, California history wrapped in deliciously delivered songs. Her voice captures the innocence, the growing disillusionment, and then finally the hope of a family through the eyes of the girl who is the center of her story. Coming to California in those days must have been like going to the moon; scary and by no means safe. The songs and the beautiful, unhurried sound of the recording is so evocative of the time and the mix of cultures; it's better than going to the movies.
Kenny Edwards

"Fortunes Made" comes with a beautiful, 32 page full-color booklet that tells the story of Elizabeth Clark whose family left St. Louis in 1849 for the promise of gold in California - with photographs, illustrations, stories and song lyrics.
