Album Notes

The music of A.J. Leonard is original and at the same time tantalizingly familiar, reinventing elements of romance and nostalgia. It is ukulele music for the 21st century.

The album is made up of songs and instrumentals with influences ranging from The Beach Boys (Away From It All and Meet Me In Hawaii), The Shadows (Big Island), traditional Hawaiian music (Makawao), shades of the Orient (The Sound of Rain) and contemporary trance (The Road To Hana)

A.J.’s connection with the tropics began at an early age when he sailed to Hawaii with his family on the way to the USA. (On The Mariposa) He still remembers the giant harbor side pineapple sign and the welcome leis courtesy of the beautiful Hawaiian women.

In 2006 A.J. visited Hawaii for the fourth time to purchase a new ukulele and whilst there sowed the seeds for what was to become his greatest album to date, Tales From the Tropics.
