Whenever recording an album it is always a dilemma as to what songs or pieces to include and what to shelve for another day and another album, or maybe not at all.

Hang on a minute…12 keys, 12 months, 12 tracks. Eureka! A solution to this age-old quandary.

But what about arrangements? Does it need bass, percussion, a string section, a tasteful oboe or soprano sax, a heavenly choir or indeed a techno beat? How about some outdoors field recordings or industrial clang or heaven forbid an accordion or a banjo! When in doubt, keep it simple; two part preludes only need a couple of ukes.

With his latest offering, AJ Leonard has managed to sidestep all the agonising and decision-making that routinely accompanies every new recording. Putting together an album of instrumentals has also spared the listener from wondering as to what lyric profundities are contained within each song. And obviously there are no hidden messages or double meanings to torment the average unsuspecting audiophile.
