Born February 28, 1983, Anthony (A.J.) Johnson is an aspiring singer, songwriter and occasional dancer. Anthony (A.J.) Johnson was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia by his mother and stepfather. He is one of four children and has gained his love for music at an early age. As a young child he always loved performing in local talent shows. It was at the age of 4, that A.J. won his first talent show singing "Got To Be There" by the Jackson Five. A.J. had become known in his community as a star who was just waiting for his chance to shine. He was influenced by the artists his parents played on the radio, such as, Michael Jackson and Prince.
In 2000, A.J. began exploring the possibility of pursuing what had become his dream; “Music!!!” He joined Refuge C.O.G.I.C. Hip Hop Music Camp where he began learning about the music industry. It was there that he recorded his first song "Cheated". A.J.'s delivery of the song was so well received that it was then placed on the local radio by a local DJ. "Cheated" played in regular rotation for approximately eight months.
In May 2002, A.J. was asked to perform at AFRAM Festival, a local event attended by 300,000 plus people. Steadily performing at local venues and events has opened up many doors and opportunities for A.J. to gain a loyal following of supporters. In addition, A.J. has been featured in SEVEN Magazine and continues to perform locally. He remains steadfast in pursuing his dream of being a national recording artist.
Most would say that A.J. stands above the rest, not only because of his 6'4" stature, but because he is dedicated to his craft and never ceases honing his gift. Remaining grounded and focused on his career, A.J. has spent many hours in the studio writing and recording and preparing for his career. When recording vocals, A.J. is very precise and has often been complimented on his ability to record with such precision.
Throughout his journey to be discovered, he has collaborated with numerous producers, singers, and songwriters and has endeavored to continue growing as an artist. In mid 2008, A.J. was introduced to Radikal Muzik and began collaborating with its producers, Calvin (C-Poppy) Godwin & Lorenza (Shortman) Boon. Through this collaboration, A.J. was overwhelmed with his new sound as he then knew that he was on the right road to success.
