AJ Smith is an award-winning singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician (piano, guitar, violin, mandolin, & banjo), and recording artist.
Smith opened for The Eagles at the Beacon Theatre in November 2012. On the heels of this performance, Smith began recording his debut album along with his bandmates, whom he met at NYU and The New School.
In December 2012, he was named a Carol Bayer Sager Songwriting Scholar and admitted into NYU's graduate Songwriting program. Also in December, Smith was named Most Influential Student at NYU by the Washington Square News.
As an undergraduate at NYU, Smith won Best Original Performance in 2011's Ultra-Violet Live Talent Competition (the same contest in which Lady Gaga competed in 2005, placing second) when he improvised an original song complete with lyrics based on genre specifications from the audience and word choices from the judges. In 2012, Smith was named the Songwriters Hall of Fame & NYU Steinhardt Songwriting Scholar of the Year and participated in the newly formed NYU Songwriting Workshop where he worked closely with GRAMMY-winning songwriter/producer Phil Galdston, R&B/Pop songwriter/producer Barry Eastmond, and singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke.
Following the release of his album in 2013, Smith has plans to go on tour with his band.
