Segun Akinlolu, veterinary surgeon, poet, musician and folklorist, is the author of three volumes of poetry, Waiting for the Bones (1997), Thinking Big (2000) and The King’s Messenger (2004). He has also published a novel, Citadel Blues (2004), and produced three cd’s of live performance poetry, On A Cold Evening (2001), Where Rivers Sing A Song (funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, 2004) and Like A Tale At Night (funded by the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Ottawa, 2006). His work has been published in several anthologies, including 25 New Nigerian Poets, Ishmael Reed Publishing Inc., Berkeley, CA (2000), Ashes and Diamonds, Association of Nigerian Authors (2001) and di-verse-city, the anthology of the Austin International Poetry Festival (2004).
Combining folksongs, original poems and storytelling, he performs his poetry with an acoustic guitar and African percussion instruments. He has performed in Africa, North America, and the UK.
