Haunting drones, nebulous beats and ethereal crackles all weave together on Akumu's fourth full-length CD. At times calming and at times unsettling, 8 tracks draw deeper into an ambient score of dirges, guitar-based atmospheres and unearthly landscapes.

“Between Worlds” is the new full-length CD produced by Akumu for 2011 -- his follow-up to “Descent" (NoType/Panospria), “Tapeten DVD” (Spider) and "Magmas/Fluxes” (Spider).
The new CD represents a more humanistic and visceral sound than the alien landscapes found on his previous releases, yet Akumu’s balance of calming, atmospheric tones mixed with sharp, frenetic micro-sonics is still very much present. Haunting drones, nebulous beats and ethereal crackles all weave together like spirits at a seance.
The musical elements on “Between Worlds” were derived from guitars, broken radio transmissions and contact microphones -- recorded and mixed in full 5.1 surround sound with studio partner Jeff McMurrich at Nassau Studios in Toronto.
Accompanying the CD is a 60-minute DVD of abstract and experimental videos created by Hughes that delivers an immersive surround-sound experience of the recording available from the artist's website.
