Welcome to redneck leftist music by alan ross haynes.
This song is not primarily about Vietnam.
This is rockabilly folk in the tradition of Country Joe and the Fish. The sound has also been compared to Canned Heat. It is funny and sardonic, footstomping, handclapping political commentary with a quirky twist.

Rockabilly

Verse 1:
We're turning the corner, we're winning the holy war
There's a light at the end of the tunnel, I've heard all this before
Nobody seems to know why we're fighting in this far-off land
They call it Iraq, but we're back in Vietnam
Verse 2:
We send our precious children to fight an unseen enemy
While we bomb those damn Arabs into democracy
The people want us out, but we don't seem to understand
They call it Iraq, but we're back in Vietnam
Bridge:
This war on terror's been chock full of error,we seem to be very confused
Maybe they got the country wrong, Iran is not spelled with a "Q"
Verse 3:
The news on the tv sounds just like forty years ago
Soon they'll be saying "gotta have more troops!", I know
The caskets come home as we sink into the desert quicksand
They call it Iraq, but we're back in Vietnam
Bridge 2:
This war in Iraq's been a war on facts, nothing they told us was true
The same lies we heard from Nixon, now we're hearing them from "W"
Repeat Verse 1

Absolutely great music. For those of us who have "been, there, done that, got the T-shirt" being able to have this music not only soothes our, "oh-no-I-hate-being-right-about-this-being-another-Vietnam" feelings, but it IS a rallying kind of song MUCH LIKE Country Joe and the Fish and GIVES PERMISSION TO SAY ALOUD AND TO EACH OTHER WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID ABOUT BRINGING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!!!!!!!!
