Album Notes

This is a tribute double album by singer-songwriter Alan Merrill, recorded in the mid 1990s, dedicated to two of his favorite songwriters and influences, Otis Blackwell, and Arthur Alexander.

On this album Merrill sings songs made famous by The Rolling Sones, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Peggy Lee, James Taylor, Otis Redding and many more. Songs written by Blackwell, and Alexander.

The vocals on this recording are live with the band, with minimal background vocal and instrumental overdubs.
What you hear is for the most part what was performed in the studio.

Surprise star guests make cameo appearances, as is traditionally the case with recordings that Merrill releases.

This is a fine tribute to two legendary songwriters,
by an unpredictable and unique recording artist.

Merrill's double shot works !
author: steve
This album contains a good selection of Otis Blackwell and Arthur Alexander songs. The songs are familiar, and Merrill puts his personal stamp on them, making them his own. My favorites are "Fever", "Old John Amos", "You better move on" and "Paralyzed". The playing is superb, with guest appearances by such luminaries as Mark Knopfler, Chris Spedding, Steve Ferrone, Spooner Oldham, Jimmy Destri, and more.
