Album Notes

This recording is truly a bi-lingual CD single.
Alan Merrill wrote these songs in 1971, and recorded them with his Tokyo based glam rock band Vodka Collins. The original vinyl single was released in the summer of 1973, in the Japanese language, and was a double A-Sided 45 rpm hit single on the EMI Toshiba label.
The Japanese lyrics were written by drummer Hiroshi Oguchi with some (uncredited) help from his then girlfriend, legendary romantic lyricist Yasui "ZuZu" Kazumi. The two songs are now a staple on Japanese classic rock radio, as they appear on the band Vodka Collins "Tokyo-New York" album.
In the millennium Alan Merrill went back into the studio and re-recorded these songs. Most of all because although he wrote the songs originally in English, there had never been released versions in the English language.
The two songs are presented here in both languages, English and Japanese.
It's something just a little bit different!

Landmark Songs. The Dawn Of J Pop.
author: Ken Tanaka
Historically speaking, this single, as it was presented in 1972 by the band Vodka Collins, was the beginning of modern J-Pop as we know it today. This glam rock single written and performed by Alan Merrill mixes rock and pop and integrates the two languages smoothly. These two songs started a trend in Japanese popular music that still applies today. These are two landmark songs in the hisory of Japan pops.

High quality and unusual content!

Glam rock in Japanese! Now that's new and different! The English language versions of the songs are great, but the Japanese versions of the same two songs were simply mind boggling. Wonderful stuff.
