notes

Okay, here's the only quote I have so far about my CD...better put it at the beginning to give it that Siskel and Ebert (or is it just Ebert now?) effect:

"Reade's album is a rare, successful combination of spoken word and music. ... Reade's storytelling and versifying resonate with digital thinking and technological prowess."
-Mark Mardon, The Bay Area Reporter

(Aw, shucks....)

"4 Seasons in a Day" is my musical concept album about life in San Francisco, released at the end of March 2002. There are ten poems/songs, ranging in style from spoken-word pieces about being home again in suburbia for Christmastime and seeing ghosts of people still living...to more humorous pop fare about mutant drag racers, murderous movie stars, and disposessed dot-commers...to a simulated sex phone chat with 10+ callers all trying to get laid, my stab at semi-punk (!), and the world's most complex campfire song.

All of the songs on the album are produced by Ed Boland from the Kuma Chan label, with John Ashfield playing guitar on three tracks. Ghetto Girl (aka Jeff Mitchell) produced basic tracks for one of the songs on the album. Two members of the homohop trio Deep Dickollective (D/DC) appear on one of the tracks, "Babel Chat."

Some of the songs on the album appear in my multimedia performance piece touring in spring/summer 2002, "Touched by a Monster," which is looking at how we project our own fears and desires onto villains around us and in the media. This performance (using songs from the CD and animations all done in--gulp--PowerPoint!) is touring from spring to fall 2002 in New Orleans, Vancouver, B.C., Columbus, OH, and several other North American cities, so...duck!

Through my semi-comedic, post-post-pre-postmodernist, multiwhatever work, I'm trying to dissect how body image, language, and mass media are internalized. Oh and maybe make a few people laugh and give them a more interactive way to deal with media than sit there and watch TV. I'm cheaper than cable, after all. I've enjoyed this little chat, and I hope you have too! :)
