Album Notes

THREE CONSECUTIVE MONTHS! 'SCHEHERAZADE' Tops the New Age Reporter's Top 100 chart at #1 in October, November & December, 2008!

One kingdom, one ruler, the strength of one woman to conquer them all!

Al Conti's third album is his most compelling and seductive album yet. In the timeless winds of the desert night begins one woman’s brave journey to life. Through the wisdom of 1001 tales, Scheherazade will free herself from the tragic fate of the women who have preceded her. The destiny of all women now rests on her courage and strength.

From the first note to the last, Al Conti’s album brings together exotic instruments such as the hurdy gurdy, udu, sitar and tablas as well as violins and cellos, moving ambient vocals and soulful guitar solos. Ranked at the top of the New Age charts, Al’s music has now become a favorite of many radio stations, reviewers and a growing number of fans.

Al Conti is a recipient of several Awards for his work. His latest album Scheherazade topped the New Age Reporter Top 100 Chart at number 1 for three consecutive months, in October, November and December, 2008. The album also garnered four NAR Lifestyle Music Awards nominations, including 'Album of the Year', and won 'Best World Album' of 2008. Scheherazade also headed many 'Top 10' and 'Best of' lists on dozens of radios around the world. His album Poeta was used as part of NPR's fundraising efforts in 2007 and his recording Quest for Orpheus, from the same album, received a “Best of 2007” Award from Mystic Soundscapes Radio. The album Poeta headed the top 10 of 2007 lists at KCCK Radio and Origen Music, and was a featured selection at WMNR Radio throughout Connecticut in April, 2008. Reviewers have praised Al’s work as “delicious, peaceful music,” “intricate,” “personable,” and expressing a “lovely humanity and positive spirit.”

In 2008, Al Conti joined Kevin Bacon, Jessica Alba, Will & Grace's Shelley Morrison and other celebrities lending his name to the Until There’s A Cure foundation to help raise funds for HIV/AIDS awareness and research.

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, now living in Vermont, USA, Al has appeared in many theatre productions as well as television commercials and shows such as CBS' daytime drama 'As The World Turns.' Al began seriously working on music 17 years ago, but it was not until a near death experience that he undertook music full time. Al comes from a family of deeply talented individuals. His grandfather was a concert pianist while Al's mother was a ballerina and his father a professor and poet. His extended family includes the late 1800's Argentinean famed writer Miguél Cané. As a result, Al has been surrounded by an eclectic blend of music, literature and art since he was very young.

Through deep reflection and an awareness of the world around him, Al transfers emotions and images into music that soothes the soul.

Al Conti's New CD Scheherazade
author: Gena
AL CONTI SCHEHERAZADE Al Conti is a composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist who plays piano, acoustic guitar, violin, electronic keyboards and percussion. Conti has traveled widely and has lived in South America, Europe and the United States. As an actor, he has appeared on television shows including the daytime drama “As The World Turns,” in films, in numerous radio and television commercials, and on-stage in theatre productions in New York City, Philadelphia, Tampa and Buenos Aires. Born and raised in Argentina, Conti comes from a family of artists with notoriety in many fields. Conti, who has composed music all his life, put out his first album, Shadows, in 2006, and released his second, Poeta, in 2007. Regarding the Scheherazade album, Conti says, “I grew up with the ‘Arabian Nights’ stories. Many of them have become famous all over the world: ‘Aladdin and the Magic Lamp,’ ‘Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves,’ ‘Sinbad The Sailor.’ But I was always captivated by Scheherazade, the woman who was telling the tales. Her story is just as fascinating as the ones she tells.” The music is contemporary instrumental, or new age, with lots of ethnic world-music flavors stirred in, especially elements meant to evoke the Mid-East of a thousand years ago when sultans ruled the desert countries by controlling gold and spices rather than oil. The melodies are quite simple, mostly with a piano in the forefront (sometimes entwined with acoustic guitar), but the arrangements and production create a thick, rich, layered texture that is highly enjoyable. Some tunes – such as “Dunyazad” and “Heart Triumphant” are soft and gentle and feminine – while others (“Shahryar,” “Gold and Spices”) are obviously tauter, more powerful and more masculine. It would seem that Conti’s background as an actor has served him well in the music world by making him more aware of telling a story with the notes.
