Reviews:

Alexander Murray - The Company of Equals

THERE was a time when soft rock was a dirty word. Then came Coldplay and Snow Patrol who added indie to the hair metal and made it acceptable to make rock music with more heart.

Such is Alexander's new album.

Opener Resurrection could be a Bon Jovi offcut as he sings: "You've helped to lift me off my knees, when sometimes I've been in too deep."

Don't You Worry For Me strips the sound back with a Shadows twanging guitar while Runnin' With The Devil changes tack again, adding old-fashioned bar room blues, as Alexander sings: "I was born into a house of shame, a love of money and a dirty name."

Even the title track sets itself up as Duran Duran's Ordinary World-era inward thinking.

The four songs set the album up well. You don't know what you're going to get next. A personal highlight was the piano-led I'm Not Made of Stone and You Make Me Smile.

Stunning in its simplicity and strength. A voice with stories to tell and the ability to tell them.
