Every song from the album "Gym Shoe Cowboy" was written or co-written by Alex Fekkos. All these songs have a story behind them, but like a true songwriter, Al never lets the truth get in the way of a good song. The song "Gym Shoe Cowboy" came from playing at "The old west festival" in Mt. Orab, ohio, when Al showed up in Shorts, t-shirt, a cowboy hat and gym shoes, one of the guys on stage then introduced him as Al Fekkos the gym shoe cowboy, 3 years later Dave Blowers and Al wrote the song about their experiences playing out and living the dream of an aspiring amateur. "Pocket full of people" was a combination of remembering how his father always had a wallet full of pictures and playing board games with his greek grandfather, utlimatly it is a song about the people we keep closest to us literally and figuratively. Probably the hardest song for Al to write was "Picture You" which was inspired from his son and wife and how tragedy met with determination can insipre hope. In Al's own words "I am a slow songwriter, I dont write them in 20 minutes, I let them boil, simmer and boil some more and all the while I am crafting the scenery and story, so it can be heard an seen. A pictures worth a thousand words, but a good song is worth more than a thousand pictures"
