This is a posthumous recording. Alexis was killed in 1999 while riding her bike in Cambridge, Mass. She had one song, "Purple Ray Gun" recorded at the time. Her friends and bandmates took her demos and live radio recordings and lovingly produced this recording. It is a young woman trying on a wide range of styles and wearing them all well.

Green M&Ms trump peace songs

Stumbled across Alexis Shepard--no relation, really--googling for my new Americana show on community radio. Usually I skip right by folk, especially dour East Coast feel-good folk that evokes Dar Williamsish Christians-n-Pagans-why-can't-we-all-get-along peace songs. Then I read her story and listened again. Some songs you have to listen to again. Turns out the disc starts with a commentary on old 60s peace songs. sorta. go figure. Give Alexis a try if just to hear the whole story about green M&Ms...
