The Acoustik Projekt is Alex Jimenez and Mark Edgar, a guitar/conga duo from the San Francisco Bay Area, and was formed out of the desire to share their music with the world… or however many people would listen. It also represents themselves, their cultural identity, where they come from and who they are, as a whole or as the sum of two parts. They wrote their first song together in 2001, and realized something special was going on.. an amazing songwriting partnership.
Alex's parents bought him his first guitar when he was 12 years old. Self taught at an early age, he started learning to play songs he heard on the radio. It wasn't until he started listening to local college radio in the mid 80's when he began to take music seriously. A product of the Bay Area indie music scene, and Influenced by local acts such as Blue Movie and Hugh, he got the bug and joined his first band.
He played bass for local bands Street Pigeon, The Steve Fegan Experience, and Euphoric Disaster back in the early/mid 90's, before he went back to his roots and switched back to his guitar, forming the acoustic duet Ms.Quito in 2001 with artist/performer Allison Hennessy, after working with her in New York. Later that year, he released a post-Ms.Quito EP of his own material entitled Songs About Love, Loss... and Money.
Mark's influences are no less eclectic, and he was hitting the skins when he was fresh out of grade school. Mark has performed and recorded with a variety of artists throughout his years. More current bands include Bay Area outfits Resin 7, Pure, Lotus Rush, and Majestic Soul.. His recordings include Resin 7's "Mystified", Lotus Rush's "Rosalie" and "Free This World", and Majestic Soul's self titled debut.
In 2001, after working on different band projects together, as bass and drums respectively, they formed The Acoustik Projekt, and enjoyed a few good years of collaborating and writing songs together. Their self-titled album is a product of that collaboration.
