In 1999, Alfie Alessandra walked off a house painting job and straight onto the Mark & Brian radio show. At the urgings of a fan and co-worker. Alfie responded to an on-the-air call for "lounge type" entertainers to appear on the top rated Los Angeles morning program. What happened next is the stuff of Hollywood legend. "Alfie absolutely blew us away" gushed radio host, Mark Thompson with a stunning impromptu performance of Frank Sinatra's "The Lady is a Tramp."
So impressed were Mark & Brian and KLOS listeners that Alfie has since appeared on the show 6 times including 3 consecutive appearances on the zany duo's annual Christmas show where he has more than held his own with veteran performers, Glen Campbell, Donny Osmond, Dwight Yoakum, Me1 Torme, Marc Cohn, Barry Manilow and a host of other major talents.'
The key to Alfie's growing popularity can be summed up in a word: "authentic," The boy has been versed in jazz, steeped in blues, and soaked in rock through years of hard work and persistence. Since moving to Los Angeles in 1977, Alfie has played anywhere and everywhere in town, developing his rich musical style, and waiting for the break that a true talent deserves. He brings back the magic of American music's glory days when writers like Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and the Gershwins created masterpiece of pop. He plays guitar like few others on today's scene, piano-like, with walking bass lines and chord melodies, and sings in an unforgettable voice dripping in soul. His songwriting proves he's learned the masters' lessons well. Alfie combines honest lyrics with elegant melodies that never fail to touch the heart. Because Alfie plays from the heart. Why else would the listeners of KLOS, one of hectic LA.' s leading album rock stations respond so enthusiastically?
One can easily imagine what will happen when Alfie hooks up with an even broader audience. With the release of "Santa's Blues" in December of 1998, Alfie stands poised for mainstream success. From the bluesiness of his own "She Put the Merry Back in Christmas" to his swingin' version of "Frosty the Snowman," Alfie displays his writing, arranging and vocal stylings that have made him a true original voice on today's music scene.

A Classic

This CD is a holiday classic that, sadly, so few have discovered. It is long past time for one of the major labels to give it the packaging, promotion and distribution the music so obviously deserves.
