Album Notes

Alfred "Alfie" Pollitt

A child prodigy by the age of 3, Alfred Pollitt was born in Bryn Mawr, PA, outside of Philadelphia. Better known in the music world as "Alfie," this distinctive musician has been a mainstay in the Jazz and R&B scene in Philadelphia for over thirty years.

Classically trained, Alfie had the benefit of musically-accomplished parents and many relatives who encouraged his love of the arts. Along with his teachers, Alfie credits jazz giants McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane as artists who have helped shape his distinctive and evocative playing style.

In addition to writing and performing, Alfie has acted as musical director and/or pianist/arranger for such prominent artists as Billy Paul, Norman Connors, The Four Tops, Johnny Hartman and Barbara Mason. Alfie also played on a record with Philadelphia's Teddy Pendergrass that went platinum.

In addition to traveling and performing all over the USA, Alfied has graced stages in Trinidad, Brazil, Jamaica, Canada and England. A historical moment in his life was when he served as musical director for the 20th year anniversary of the "Ali-Fraser" fight.

At last, a collection of original tunes by Alfie is available to the public through this CD release by Philly Through My Ear Productions. Let us introduce to some and reacquaint to others the musical artistry of Alfred "Alfie" Pollitt.

I was directed to this CD by browsing through CDBaby, looking for some swingin' jazz for my boyfriend...this is terrific! Alfie Pollitt is masterful, and the tunes were just perfect for driving up to the Montreal Jazz Fest. Thanks CDBaby!

I love music that makes no demands on me but rather gives me the gift of joy, pleasure and creativity. I like a gift skillfully given...this gives without requirement. Listen and rejoice!
